A new box set focuses on the electroacoustic works of revolutionary Greek composer Iannis Xenakis

• The set, which consists of five LPs and five CDs, marks what would be Xenakis's 100th year.

Berlin-based Karlrecords is releasing a box set compiling works by Iannis Xenakis. Electroacoustic Works consists of 14 compositions spanning from 1957 through 1992. The five-part set is bookended by early and late works, while parts two through four focus on music for Xenakis's '60s and '70s multimedia installations, Polytopes. The release arrives this January to celebrate what would be Xenakis' 100th birthday. Born in 1922, the Greek artist was known for powerful musique concrète and mathematical compositions until his death in 2001. In addition to being a music theorist, Xenakis was an architect, performance director and engineer who incorporated statistical and architectural principles into his work. Electroacoustic Works is part of Karlrecords' Perihel series. Curated by Reinhold Friedl, Perihel focuses on seminal works by experimental composers such as John Cage and Guy Reibel.
